Every culture produces its own “keeper”. Every culture produces its own principles, its own history, its own advocates, and its own prophet pointing the way to that higher quality of life. For the urban-street culture known in the world today as “Hip Hop”, KRS-One is all of the above. His latest project, Now Hear This available November 24th 2015, was created while KRS-One was touring the U.S., the U.K. and Europe. “Everywhere I go, from big festival stages to intimate clubs and bars, people want that boom-bap” says KRS-One. “But still, even though the streets are crying-out for more depth and authenticity in Hip Hop, very few rappers today are willing to actually deliver”.
“This album is raw”—this is one of the first things heard when you press play on NOW HEAR THIS, and raw it is! KRS-One puts on his headphones, checks on his lead producer DJ Predator Prime, and Boom! Song after song speaks with clarity, strength and substance! Much of the subject matter on NOW HEAR THIS deals with the current social challenges of our time and documents the often ignored views of America’s “other” citizens. KRS-One has always been ahead of his peers with beats and rhymes that have guided and developed Hip Hop itself, but with songs like “Drugs Won”, “American Flag”, “From the Beginning Again” and G Simone’s “Oh Cruel Mob” poem which concludes the album, KRS-One clearly leaps ahead of what is commonly called “hip-hop” today, and brings us right back to what original Hip Hop was always meant to be—THE UNAPOLOGETIC VOICE OF THE PEOPLE! Yes, we all like to party and get crazy at times; but not all of the time, and KRS-One’s NOW HEAR THIS project brilliantly balances salient social street issues with classic DJ and emcee party-rocking rhymes. Songs like “Duty”, “Let’s Go” and this week’s release “Sound Man” are sure to move the neck of any true Hip Hop head.

lyrics
[Hook]
Rum-pum-pum-pum-pum
We are not the dumb ones
We see how the drugs run
We see were they come from
Governments are selling it
Every day one ton
They declared a war on drugs
But drugs won
[Verse 1]
Flashlights, canine dogs and crooked copper's
Automatics, tear gas, rams and helicopters
Off of marijuana, on the east coast every year
While California selling that high grade everywhere
It's crazy how the east coast considers herb the enemy
While every corner in LA is a dispensary
The country been split on this issue now for a century
Why would a natural harmless herb lead to a felony?
New York need to catch up
The pace need to pick it up
You know them prosecutors got big spliff litted up
Switch the philosophy think of the economy
Plants, herbs and roots are natures technology
[Hook 2x]
Rum-pum-pum-pum-pum
We are not the dumb ones
We see how the drugs run
We see were they come from
Governments are selling it
Every day one ton
They declared a war on drugs
But drugs won
[Verse 2]
People taking risks
Cause they know that money gon' come
The drug game is global
Paying off twenty to one
Who you telling?
Don't you think these politicians they selling?
Doctors ain't sellin', cops ain't selling
While rocking your melon?
Cop cars smelling like Cali blue dream
In New York brothers like "what do you mean?"
I mean switch the velocity
Think of the economy
Plants, herbs and roots are natures technology
[Hook]
Rum-pum-pum-pum-pum
We are not the dumb ones
We see how the drugs run
We see were they come from
Governments are selling it
Every day one ton
They declared a war on drugs
But drugs won
[Verse 3]
Brothers on that lock down
Sisters in that lock up
Things were good in the hood
Till them D's popped up
Brothers getting shot up, cause the systems unjust
Segregated justice
It's just them and just us
Cops roam around like a gang tryna jump us
Into the plantation prisons they wanna dump us
Cause they're really prisons for the poor
It's about the money, not the drugs
That's what I'm getting handcuffed for
It ain't about the law, it ain't about the crime
Cause banks are paying fines for their crimes all the time
Huh it's a setup, switch the philosophy
Plants, herbs and roots are natures technology
[Hook x2]
Rum-pum-pum-pum-pum
We are not the dumb ones
We see how the drugs run
We see were they come from
Governments are selling it
Every day one ton
They declared a war on drugs
But drugs won
